Rookie Nick Root Wins Second Brewerton Speedway Modified Feature

BREWERTON, NY (August 22, 2025) - Nicholas Root came into the 2025 racing season as a rookie in the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds. Root left Brewerton Speedway Friday night a two-time feature winner this season.

In the 35-Lap Modified feature Root would battle in the top five taking the lead on lap 21 and from there would cruise to victory lane.

Other winners on R J Caruso Tax & Accounting Night. Cody Manitta (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman) Joe Isabell (AmeriCU Credit Union STARS/IMCA Mod Lites) Zach Sobotka (CRSA Sprints).

Jim Witko and Jeff Taylor brought the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds to the green. It was Chris Hulsizer from his third starting spot to lead the opening lap 35-Lap feature.

A quick Milton Cat caution on lap 8 would slow the field. The restart would see Hulsizer, Todd Root, Nick Root, Darren Smith, and Chris Hile the top five when the race goes back to green.

The race would change on lap 18 for leader Chris Hulsizer tangled with a lap-car ending his night and handing the lead to Darren Smith.

With Smith running the bottom, it left the top side wide-open for Nick Root to sweep around Smith to be scored as the new leader on lap 21.

With 10 laps remaining Root and Smith were the top two as Amy Holland, Todd Root, and Chris Hile raced for third through fifth.

Over the final laps with no yellows Nick Root would cruise to his second win of the year. Darren Smith, Amy Holland, Tim Sears Jr., and Todd Root completed the top five.

Dylan Piersall, Colby Herzog, and Cody Manitta would lead the opening laps of the 25-Lap DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature.

On lap 5 Manitta opened a big lead with Herzog, Brett Sears, Piersall, and Nick Ventura battled for top five positions.

With 10 laps remaining Manitta was on cruise control out front. Sears, Ventura, Tony Finch II, and Herzog were still in contention in the top five.

The final laps went caution free with Cody Manitta picking up the win. Brett Sears, Nick Ventura, Hunter Hollenbeck from 14th, and Tony Finch II finished second through fifth.

Friday was Championship Night for the AmeriCU Credit Union STARS/IMCA Mod Lites.

Joe Isabell put an exclamation point on his 2025 season and Track Championship dominating the 20-Lap feature. Mike Mullen, Anthony Scott, Joe Garafolo, and Matt Kitts completed the top five.

Top Five Final Points - AmeriCU Credit Union STARS/IMCA Mod Lites: 1.6J - Joe Isabell (401) 2. 06 – Mike Mullen (381) 3. 9 – Roger Olschewske (367) 4. 55 – Joe Garafolo (363) 5. 99 – Tom Mackey (357).

Over thirty CRSA Sprints signed in to the pits Friday. It took four heats, Dash, and B-Main to set the 25-car feature.

The race came down to two local favorites with Zach Sobotka (Parish, NY) outrunning Jordan Hutton (Hannibal, NY) for the win. Johnny Smith, Jeff Trombley, and Billy VanInwegen completed the top five.
