Chad Phelps Grabs Popular Brewerton Speedway Modified Win

By Dave Medler

BREWERTON, NY (August 15, 2025) - It had been since 2018 that Chad Phelps went to Brewerton Speedway victory lane. All that changed Friday night as Chad Phelps made a late race charge to park his car in victory lane.

Phelps would start ninth in the 35-Lap Tracey Road DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature making the winning pass on lap 33 powering by leader Larry Wight and then held off Wight for the popular win.

Other winners on Ameritool and Empire Power Sports night. Riley Rogala (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman) Justin Williams (AmeriCu Credit Union STARS Mod Lites Beast of the East) Chris Bonoffski (Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stocks).

Tucker Halliday led the first three laps of the 35-Lap Modified feature when Jason Parkhurst would drive under and by Halliday on lap four in his small block powered car.

Parkhurst would open a few cars lengths advantage by lap 10 as Hulsizer, Kyle Devendorf, Larry Wight running the extreme outside from 14th and Chris Hile raced for top five spots.

Lap 16 the caution flag would wave when second place Devendorf suddenly slowed.

When the green came back on it would take Wight two laps to blast into the lead riding the cushion.

A quick caution on lap 22 would tighten the field up. The top five restart would be Wight, Hile, Parkhurst, Tim Sears Jr. from 15th and Hulsizer.

When the race went back to green Sears would drive into second and then set his sights on Wight as the final laps started clicking off the scoring tower.

While everyone was watching the race up front, out of nowhere Chad Phelps would drive into the top five and then second with five laps to go.

Chad Phelps would run down and pass Larry Wight with two laps to go and then held off Wight to go to victory lane for the first time since the 2018 season. Tim Sears Jr., Chris Hile, and Amy Holland finished third through fifth.

Sam Groom would lead the opening nine laps of the 25-Lap DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature when Tony Finch II would drive into the lead down the back straightaway on lap ten.

With ten laps to go Finch was in total control of the race when he looped his car in turn one handing the lead to Riley Rogala.

Over the remaining laps there was no stopping Rogala from going to victory lane for his first Brewerton Sportsman win. Joe Trichilo, Nick Ventura, Jason Parkhurst Jr., and Owen Bird completed the top five.

Thirty-Two AmeriCU Credit Union Mod Lites signed into the pits for race one of the four race Beast of the East series.

Justin Williams jumped out to the early lead in the 25-Lap feature with his dad Doug Williams tucked in behind him.

After a couple quick yellows, Williams would open a few cars lengths advantage by lap 5 with Doug Williams, Zack Babcock, Ryan Anderson, and Matt Kitts battling for second through fifth.

Lap 10 would see Williams still in control of the race with Zack Babcock driving into second. Doug Williams, Kitts, and Mike Mullen showed in the top five.

Cautions on laps 14 and 16 would see Williams almost two second lead disappear.

With five laps to go, Williams was still in control of the race leaving Doug Williams, Babcock, Kitts, and Mullen to race for second through fifth.

The caution lights would flash on lap 21 giving the field one last shot at Williams and a $1,500 pay day.

Over the final laps Justin Williams drove away from the field for the win. Zack Babcock, Matt Kitts, Mike Mullen, and Doug Williams finished second through fifth.

Dylan Burdick would lead the first three laps of the 15-Lap Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stock Feature when Chris Bonoffski would drive into the lead.

Bonoffski would drive away from the field the rest of the way for his fifth feature win of the season. Zak Petrie, Tim Dunn, Nate Powers, and Dylan Burdick completed the top five.
