Holland Hustles to Second Career Modified Win; Sears, Root and Bonoffski Claim Track Championships

BREWERTON, NY (August 31, 2024) - Just two seasons removed from the Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman Track Championship, Amy Holland now has two Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified Feature wins after taking the win Friday Night on Chris Nichols Snap-On and STOP-DWI-NY night. Holland capped off an impressive drive from the 12th starting spot and snuck by Todd Root with just a lap to go to claim the popular victory.

In other action Friday, Logan Crisafulli won the Empire Super Sprint A-Main, Brett Sears won the Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman Feature while Chris Bonoffski won the Mirabito 4-Cylinder Super Stock Feature. Tim Sears Jr. was crowned the Tracey Road Track Champion, Nick Root captured the Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman Track Championship while Bonoffski clinched the 4-Cylinder crown.

Teammates Max Hill and Chris Hulsizer paced the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified feature to green with Hill jumping out to the early advantage. Hill would lead Hulsizer for the first 11 laps before Hulsizer was forced to the infield with mechanical issues. Just a lap later the first Milton CAT Caution of the race flew for a spun Larry Wight.

Dylan Zacharias got the jump on Hill on the ensuing restart to take the lead before another caution on lap 13 for an incident involving Jimmy Phelps and Zach Payne. Both would rejoin the field.

Zacharias would regain control on the ensuing restart and would hold the lead for the next three laps before Root worked his way past on lap 17. At the halfway point it was Root, Zacharias, Jeff Taylor, Ronnie Davis III and Holland the top-5.

The 6th starting Root looked strong, opening up a nearly two second lead over first Zacharias and then Taylor who took the second spot on lap 24. Holland, meanwhile, continued her charge forward, getting by Davis for 4th on lap 24 then Zacharias for 3rd on lap 25.

With ten to go it was Root over Taylor, Holland, Zacharias and Davis and that top-5 remained that way before the third Milton CAT Caution of the feature flew on lap 27, for Davis, who slowed to a stop in turn 3 ending a solid run.

Root led Taylor and Holland to the restart and again set a quick pace leaving Taylor to fend off Holland. Taylor did until lap 29, but Holland’s mastery of the bottom groove allowed her to claim the runner-up spot just before the final Milton CAT Caution of the race flew on lap 30. The caution erased a one second lead for Root and put Holland on his rear bumper.

Root held the point on the restart and tried to keep Holland at bay by running the bottom lane. That strategy worked on laps 31 and 32 but Root seemed to struggle keeping his FX Caprara sponsored mount on the bottom. Holland worked inside of Root on lap 32 and Root changed course, opting to try to keep his momentum up on the top groove.

For a lap that worked, but coming for the white flag Holland’s inside groove proved to be too much as she nosed out front at the stripe. Root charged into one and kept pace with Holland but his only hope was Holland would miss her mark on the low groove. She didn’t and went on to take the win by .764 at the checkered.

Root came home a solid second ahead of Chad Phelps and Zacharias. Last week’s winner Darren Smith charged from his 19th starting position to take 5th. Tim Sears Jr. drove a conservative race to finish sixth and earn the 2024 Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified Track Championship. Taylor, Tom Sears Jr., Jimmy Phelps, and Chris Mackey rounded out the top-10.

Logan Crisafulli drove Mike Stelter’s #36 Sprint Car to a popular win in the 25-lap Empire Super Sprint Feature. The Oswego, NY youngster came from seventh to take the win over a hard charging Larry Wight who brought a brand-new car home in second. Danny Varin, Sammy Reakes IV and B-Main winner Chris Hile rounded out the top-5 from his 19th starting spot.

Brett Sears earned his career-first Brewerton feature win with a dominating performance in the Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Sears started the 25-lap main from the 3rd spot and made quick work of the front row taking the lead from Earl Rudy on lap 4. Once out front, Sears drove a flawless race to take the win in the caution-free feature.

Nick Root started 9th and simply needed to keep his nose clean to take the 2024 Track Championship. Root found the going easy in his family-owned #30 and earned a solid runner-up finish behind Sears and claimed his first career DIRTcar Sportsman track championship. Tony Finch II made a late charge to finish third ahead of Cody Manitta and Stephen Marshall who finished third through fifth.

Chris Bonoffski captured his seventh straight Mirabito 4-Cylinder Superstock feature and clinched the 2024 track championship. Bonoffski took the lead early from his 10th starting spot and took the win. Nate Powers finished second with Tony VanEpps, Jack Taskey and Wally VanEpps completing the top-5.
