Chad Phelps Grabs Popular Brewerton Speedway Modified Win; Demolition Derbies Friday, June 29

BREWERTON, NY – Chad Phelps from New Haven, NY has knocked on the Brewerton Speedway victory lane door the last few seasons coming up just short. On Friday night Phelps not only knocked on victory lane door, he kicked it wide open, grabbing the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature win.

Battling in the top-five most of the race, Chad Phelps would move into second and set his sights on leader Jim Witko. Lap after lap Phelps would dog Witko as they both worked the bottom of the speedway with the caution coming out on lap 30. On the restart Witko slipped just enough up the speedway to give Phelps enough room to take the lead and drive away for the popular win with the fans.

Other winners on NAPA Auto Parts night were, Alan Fink holdover June 15th feature and Nick Krause June 22 feature No.1 (SUNY Canton DIRTcar Sportsman) Ray Bechler (JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinders) Dale Caswell (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models). The second Sportsman and STARS Mod Lite features were postponed when rains hit the speedway ending the night.

Rookie Tyler Trump would jump out to the early lead setting a quick pace in the 35-lap modified feature.

With 5 laps showing on the scoring tower Trump moved out to about a 10-car length lead while behind him you could have thrown a blanket over Chris Hile, Jim Witko, Max McLaughlin and Chad Phelps.

A quick caution on lap 7 and restart would see Chris Hile bolt out to the lead.

On lap 16 Witko, running the bottom, found the bite he needed to power his car by Hile to be scored the new leader.

With 20 laps showing on the scoring tower there was still a tight fight for the lead and top running positions between Witko, Hile, Phelps and McLaughlin.

Witko would hold a narrow lead with 10 laps to go over Chad Phelps, Hile, McLaughlin and Jimmy Phelps.

The final caution would come on lap 30 with the restart making the difference in the race that allowed Phelps to drive by Witko and then drive away to the 1.5 second win. Chris Hile, Jimmy Phelps, Jim Witko and Tim Sears Jr., finished second through fifth.

The resumption of the second 25-Lap Sportsman that was stopped on lap 7 the week before would see Tyler Thompson lead for one lap before Alan Fink would take the top spot.

Once out from Fink would slowly drive away from the field and go on to the win by 3.7 seconds at the checkers. Tyler Thompson, Amy Holland, Stephen Denton and Brent Joy finished second through fifth.

In the first June 22, 25-lap Sportsman feature JJ Courcy would lead the opening lap when one lap later Corey Barker in a four-wide race for the lead down the back straight would take the lead by the time he came back to the flag stand.

At lap 10 Barker and Chris Hulsizer were in a two-car breakaway race for the lead while you could have thrown a blanket over Stephen Denton, Amy Holland and Nick Krause racing for third through fifth.

With 10 to go Barker shook loose Hulsizer and opened a half a straightaway lead. Krause, Denton and Holland still raced for top-five finishing spots.

The whole race would change on a lap 17 caution and restart. On the restart second place Hulsizer would make contact with Barker spinning the leader out. Officials would send Hulsizer to the back of the field for the contact.

When the green came back out Nick Krause would take the lead and would never be seriously challenged the rest of the way for his second win of the season. Amy Holland, Stephen Denton, Scott Prentice and Billy Clark Jr. came home second through fifth.

A stout field of Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models signed into the pits for their second visit of the season.

The 20-lap feature would see Jason Parkhurst set the early pace at the front of the field.

With 5 laps showing on the scoring tower Parkhurst and Charlie Sandercock were in a two-car breakaway race for the lead with Brian Knowles, Chris Fleming and Jason Occhino having a close battle of their own for third through fifth.

At the halfway point Parkhurst and Sandercock were still fighting for the lead, but soon would have company as Dale Caswell was closing fast on the top two.

With 5 laps to go Caswell would run down and pass Parkhurst to be scored the new leader.

Over the final laps Caswell would drive away winning by 2.78 seconds at the finish. The battle for third through fifth was intense in and out of lapped traffic with Jason Parkhurst, Charlie Sandercock, Sean Beardsley and Chris Fleming finishing second through fifth.

In the 15-lap JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinder feature Quinn Wallis would take the lead and would open a huge lead until a yellow on lap 10. Once the race went back green points leader Ray Bechler would take the lead on lap 13 and would never look back taking the win. Evan Wright, Quinn Wallis, Sabrina Jeffries and Donnie Rider finished second through fifth.

Keep checking the track website and Facebook page for when the 'postponed because of rain' Mod Lite and Sportsman features will be run.
