PLANCK TAKES SERIES FIRST IN FERRIS INDUSTRIES 100 AT BREWERTON
BREWERTON, NY – Last summer Dale Planck scored his first career Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series victory at Cornwall Motor Speedway and followed it up the next night by setting his initial Integra Shocks Fast Time at Autodrome Drummond. Friday night he was fast all night long, cruising home in a command performance at Brewerton Speedway for both his inaugural Advance Auto Parts Series victory and Integra Shocks award on American soil. Also winning were Kevan Cook in the World Products Empire State IMCA Modified Series and Doug Williams in the ESDCA Mod Lites.
Planck started fifth in the 30-car field and found the middle groove to his liking before overtaking pole-sitter Alan Johnson on a lap 42 restart. He remained out front the rest of the way, extending his lead to a dozen car-lengths at the checkers aboard the Ryan Jacobs owned no. 77x East End Auto Parts & Construction-Jacob's Excavation/Bicknell entry to pick up the $6,000 top prize and a guaranteed starting spot in the Rite Aid 200 at Syracuse during Super DIRT Week XXXVI on Oct. 7.
Johnson settled for runner-up laurels in his experimental Bicknell ride ahead of Pat Ward, Bert Hard Charger Justin Haers (started 26th) and Tim Fuller. Billy Decker, defending race winner Jimmy Phelps, Advance Auto Parts Series points leader Brett Hearn, Danny Johnson and Matt Sheppard rounded out the top-10 in the Ferris Industries 100 that was slowed by 10 caution periods.
The mighty DIRT Modifieds return to Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series action for the final time in Canada this season. Merrittville Speedway stages the 15th Annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial 100-lap main event on Monday, Aug. 6 with the winner collecting a $6,000 payout plus valuable points towards the overall Hoosier-Sunoco Mr. DIRTcar Championship for Big-Block Modifieds.
The World Products Empire State IMCA Modified Series was featured in a 25-lap special event with Kevan Cook winning his first Brewerton win of the year. Cook broke the eight race win streak of Dale Caswell, who retired from the event early with a broken rear end. Cook started eighth on the field and roared into the lead on lap 3 when early leader Rich Townsend spun. At the end of the event, Bob Banks was second, followed by Rich Townsend who recovered to finish third. Fourth was Aaron Jacobs and fifth was Greg Kimball.
In the ESDCA Mod Lite division 20-lap feature, Doug Williams of Pennellville won his third feature of the 2007 race season inching much closer to point leader Dan Williams, who was missing in action. Williams came from the tenth starting position and took the lead on lap six from early race leader Rocco Leone. Lowell Zehr was second, followed by Ken Gamlen, Kevin Doll, Kevin Doll, and Tim Devendorf.
