Brewerton, N.Y. – (August 3, 2007) – Kevan Cook of Constantia, N.Y., scored his second World Products Empire IMCA Modified Series victory of the season this past Friday at the ‘D’-shaped dirt demon, Brewerton Speedway in Central New York. Cook, who started eighth, took the lead from early race leader Rich Townsend of Hastings, N.Y., and held off a charging Bob Banks, Jr., of Hudson, N.Y., to continue his breakout season. Cook continued to build his track point lead at Brewerton in addition to taking over the point lead in series.
“This is great, unbelievable,” said Cook after he jumped down from the roof of his machine in victory lane. “We had a great car tonight and this win means so much. We’ve worked really hard to get here and it just feels great. I’ve got to thank everyone that helps us. I can’t forget Jen and my crew. They are so dedicated to this and they’re dedication is incredible. I didn’t how close Bob (Banks) got to us, I was just going as fast as I could. To win here tonight, means so much to me and our it really puts an exclamation point on our season so far. We’ll just have to see where things head from here.”
Banks, who finished second, started 12th, and used the top side of the speedway to his advantage as well as plenty of forward bite to move through the field. “We’ve been working on the car,” smiled Banks. “And you can tell. The car was great tonight and I thought we might have something for Kevan. We gave it our all and just needed a little more. Kevan was really hooked up tonight. I need to thank my family, Mike at Z-1 Racing Supply and everyone that pitches in to do this. We’re having a pretty good season.”
Townsend ended up third after starting on the pole. “We had a good night,” Townsend smiled from victory lane. “I wish we could have finished a few spots higher." Aaron Jacobs of Utica, N.Y., finished fourth after starting 21st. Jacobs, who won the B-Main, worked his way through the field throughout the 25-lap event. “Wayne helped me out and we got this car back to where it needed to be,” offered Banks following the event. “We’ll take fourth tonight. Last weekend was a pretty tough on.” Brewerton regular, Greg Kimball, who started 13th finished fifth. Rob Keller of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Dale Caswell of West Monroe, N.Y., Ken Rogers of West Monroe, N.Y., and Dave Talbot of Clay, N.Y., won the qualifying races.
The next event for the World Products Empire IMCA Modified Series is on Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, N.Y.
Series Briefs;
Dale Caswell of West Monroe, N.Y., who is currently second in the national championship standings to David Murray struggled in the feature. After starting 11th, Caswell was involved in an early race incident that caused him to lose the driveshaft. Caswell finished 23rd, which is one of his worse finishes of the season.
Sean Lias of Westfield, Pa., started 9th, went to the back of the field after an early race incident and recovered to finish 7th. Lias is currently second in SuperFlow Eastern Region standings. “We had a challenging night,” explained Lias. “We’re still digging and maybe we’ll have something for the Dale (Caswell) for the Eastern Region.” Lias is the defending SuperFlow Eastern Region champion.
Brewerton Speedway has long been one of the flag ship tracks for IMCA Modified competition in the SuperFlow Eastern Region. Lias is the winningest driver in the history of the speedway. After a long tenure as the owner, Harvey and Joan Fink, sold Brewerton and Fulton Speedway to WHF, incorporated. WHF, Inc., is led by TJ Fitzgibbons, Art Halliday and Don Watrous. WHF has carried on the tradition of IMCA Racing at Brewerton.
