SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CANCEL BREWERTON SPEEDWAY DIRTcar RACING
BREWERTON, NY – A strong line of severe thunderstorms with high winds and heavy rain plowed through Central New York early Friday evening and forced Brewerton Speedway track officials to cancel the evening’s racing action during the heat races on Ferris Industries / Colosse Cheese Night.
Heat winners in the Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series event before the weather worsened were Nathan Peckham, Mike Welch, and Andy Fisk. Winning ESDCA Mod Lite heats were Jeff Herbert, Ken Gamlen, and Jeff Hays. The lone DIRTcar Modified heat victory went to Kenny Stafford. The Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series event will be rescheduled at a later date to be announced.
With weather conditions extremely ominous as the speedway was monitoring the weather situation, the decision was made to halt the action following the first Modified heat, and clear the grandstands for the safety of everyone. As the winds rose and lightning began flashing vividly, the decision was made to pull the plug. Minutes later, the skies opened up and heavy rains began to fall.
Rain checks from Friday June 8 can be used for the remainder of the 2007 race season for any regular show. Or, race fans have the option of using their rain check from June 8 at Fulton Speedway on June 9 for $5 off the General Admission cost for the 10th Annual 100-lap Showdown at Sundown Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event.
Coming up this Friday June 15 at Brewerton Speedway is Family Autograph Night presented by Syracuse.com and Maple View Garage. All the cars and drivers will be brought down to the frontstretch during intermission for driver autographs, conversation, giveaways, driver cards, and much much more with your favorite driver.
In race action on the fast 1/3-mile “D-Shaped DIRT Demon” are the DIRTcar Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, 4-Cylinder Super Stocks, and 4-Cylinder Enduros. The gates will open at 5:30pm with racing beginning at 7:30pm.
