HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS POSTPONE BREWERTON SPEEDWAY OPENER; PRACTICE NOW SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY EVENING

BREWERTON, NY – Heavy late afternoon rain showers postponed the 2007 Season Opener on Friday night at Brewerton Speedway.  After late morning clearing, it appeared that the rain was gone for the day, but rains moved back into the Central New York region just as the pit gates were scheduled to open, forcing the cancellation.

A Test and Tune practice session is now scheduled for this coming Tuesday, May 1. The gates will open at 5:30pm, with hot laps for all divisions beginning at 7:30pm. Grandstand admission will be free, and it will offer race fans a great chance to get a glimpse of what is to come during the 2007 race season.

A tremendous field of racecars were in the pit area and parking lot preparing for the night of racing, but it was all for naught. Just some of the Modified drivers on hand already were Jimmy Phelps, Kevin Bates, Kenny Stafford, Dan Vauter, Tom Sears, Tim Sears, Kyle Lewis, Robert King, and Kevin Bates. Also scheduled to appear were defending track champion Alan Johnson, Chuck Bower, Steve Hulsizer, Scott Prentice, Jeff Isabell, and many more.

One improvement all drivers seemed to be excited about is the yuke tires around the infield in the turns have been removed and replaced with car tires half buried in the ground. This change will certainly cut down on cautions and damage to all race cars. A similar plan is being developed at Fulton Speedway, the Saturday night sister track of “The D-Shaped DIRT Demon”.

Brewerton Speedway will try once again to kick off the 2007 race season this coming Friday, May 4 with the 59th Season Opener. Featured will be the first point races of the year for the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, 4-Cylinder Super Stocks, and 4-Cylinder Enduros.  Adult admission is $12, ages 10-14 is $5 and children ages 9 and under are free.
