ANDERSON, GWILT, JONES, DELACRUZ, & MATHEWS ALL END THE 2006 REGULAR SEASON AT BREWERTON WITH FEATURE WINS

 

BREWERTON, NY – Brewerton Speedway ended the regular 2006 race season last Friday September 8 on Syracuse.com Night. Several new faces graced victory lane on the beautiful early fall night featuring Brewerton’s exciting support divisions.

 

            Bill Anderson Jr. of Montezuma claimed the IMCA Modified 20-lap feature victory, his first of the 2006 race season. Anderson came from the sixth starting position to take the lead on lap 18 from veteran Les Hubbard after a hard fought battle. Hubbard was second, followed by Bill Anderson, Pat Pontello, and Jeff Cardinale.

 

            Young Joe Gwilt of Cicero used a new car bought from Tod Simons to win his first ever 20-lap ESDCA Mod Lite feature. Gwilt came from the fifth starting position and took the lead on lap 18 when leader Doug Williams slowed to a stop. Second was Gary Schug in his best finish ever, third was Lowell Zehr, fourth was Darren Austin, and fifth was Tim Devendorf in a borrowed car.

 

            Southern Tier invader Howard Jones started sixth and won the 20-lap Pure Stock Victoria Championship Qualifier for his first ever Brewerton victory. Dave Mannise gave Jones all he had but had to settle for second. Mannise was the early leader with Jones taking the lead on lap 10. Completing the top five it was Rusty Marsden, Todd Raabe, and Gary Barton.

 

            Joey Delacruz of Fulton won his ninth 4-Cylinder Super Stock feature of the year. Delacruz used the pole starting position to his advantage and led the entire 15-lap distance. Chuck Powelczyk was second, followed by young Claude Hutchings Jr, Aron Backus, and Sam

Curcie.

 

            Morris Mathews won the 4-Cylinder Enduro, his second win of the year. Second was Chad Guthrie, third was Josh Herbert, fourth was Mark Johnston, and fifth was Witt Chilson. With his strong second place finish in the 25-lapper, Chad Guthrie claimed the 2006 track championship in the 4-Cyldiner Enduro division.

 

            Brewerton Speedway will fall silent until Thursday October 5 as Leaf Racewear will present the 358-Modified Super DIRT Series 75-lap DIRT Week Championship. Also on the card for the final race of the 2006 season will be the ESDCA Mod Lites in a 25-Lap Championship. Race time is set for 7:30pm.
