feature win with father Jeff. |
BREWERTON, NY...Joe Isabell beat the best at
Brewerton Speedway last Friday and claimed his first ever DIRT Big Block
Modified feature race win. The 16 year-old second generation driver held
off the likes of past Mr. DIRT Champions Alan Johnson and Tim Fuller to
earn the victory at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. The victory for the JIR
Motorsports team was worth $2,000.
Kevin Bates jumped out to the early
lead at the start of the DIRT Big Block Modified main event. Bates would
lead the first eight circuits before heading to the pit area. Isabell
inherited the lead at this time and would lead through lap-14. Veteran
Chuck Bower took the top spot away from Isabell on lap-15. Isabell came
charging back though and would take the top spot back on lap-17.
The young Isabell survived two minor
caution periods and would continue to lead the talented field. On lap-28
Fuller was the official race leader and the defending Mr. DIRT would
lead through lap-30. Isabell passed Fuller for the lead on lap-31. Alan
Johnson soon entered the picture and Johnson passed Fuller for the
second position on lap-34.
It was now Johnson's turn to pressure
the youngster into a mistake, but it never came about. Joe Isabell
earned the feature race win and became the youngest driver to win a main
division feature at the track. Alan Johnson, Fuller, Bower and Jimmy
Phelps completed the top five feature finishers. Matt Sheppard, Billy
Decker, Pat Ward, Ryan Phelps and Jim Witko rounded out the top ten.
Rob Keller won his fifth 20-lap IMCA
Modified feature race last Friday night. Dale Caswell, Kevan Cook, Brian
Evenden and Steve Coit followed Keller across the finish line. Pete
Anderson led the first four circuits of the main event. Caswell passed
Anderson for the top spot on lap five. Keller made the winning move past
Caswell on lap six.
Doug Williams claimed his sixth 20-lap
ESDCA Mod Lite feature race win last Friday night. Dan Williams, Tim
Devendorf, Darren Austin and Jeff Barker finished in positions second
through fifth respectively. Barker led the opening two circuits of the
main event. Doug Williams took the top spot away from Barker on lap
three and in the closing laps held off his brother Dan for the victory.
Joey Delacruz earned his sixth 15-lap
Four Cylinder Super Stock feature race win of the season last Friday
night. Chuck Powelczyk, Todd Williamson, Matt Wetterer and Rich Murtaugh
rounded out the top five feature finishers. Todd Williamson led the
first 13-laps of the feature race. Delacruz made his way by Williamson
on lap-14 and continued to lead until the finish.
Jared Fink earned the victory in the
wild 20-lap Central New York Mini Sprint feature race. Johnny Gaurino,
Don Harvey, James Kiser and Mike Kiser finished in positions second
through fifth respectively.
This Friday at Brewerton Speedway the
DIRT Sportsman will make their second appearance of the season. The DIRT
Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, Four Cylinder
Super Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers will also be in
competition. Show time is 7:30 p.m. For more information please go on
