SHEPPARD WINS SECOND OF THE SEASON AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY ON BUDWEISER BEER / SYRACUSE CRUNCH NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY...Matt Sheppard won his second 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature race of the season last Friday on Budweiser Beer / Syracuse Crunch Night. Sheppard worked up patiently from the 11th starting position to take the lead away from Ryan Phelps for good on lap-22. The victory for the Randy Ross owned, G-U Hardware sponsored car was worth $2,000.

Steve Hulsizer raced out to the early lead at the start of the Budweiser Beer / Syracuse Crunch DIRT Big Block Modified feature race from the outside pole starting position. Hulsizer led the opening nine circuits before losing power on the track on lap nine. Ryan Phelps inherited the lead at this point and the second generation driver would lead the talented field through lap-18.

Sheppard took the top spot away from Ryan Phelps on lap-19. Phelps came charging right back, though, to lead the next two laps. Sheppard regained the lead from Phelps on lap-22. At that time both Ryan Phelps and Vic Coffey, who were racing in second and third respectively, came into contact with cars that had tangled entering the fourth turn.

In the final laps Sheppard went on to the convincing victory at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Pat Ward, Tim Fuller, Billy Decker and Chuck Bower completed the top five feature finishers. Jimmy Phelps, Alan Johnson, Stewart Friesen, Jim Witko Jr. and Kenny Stafford finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively in the 26-car starting field.

Dale Caswell claimed his first 20-lap IMCA Modified feature race win of the season last Friday night. Johnny Hill, Sean Lias, Les Hubbard and Kevan Cook finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Caswell took the top spot away from Pete Anderson on lap five and never gave it back as he constantly was able to hold off former Track Champion Johnny Hill.

Darren Austin won his first ever 20-lap ESDCA Mod Lite feature race in exciting fashion last Friday night. Austin held off defending Track Champion Tim Devendorf for the victory. Dan Williams, Lowell Zehr and Jeff Isabell Jr. completed the top five feature finishers. Austin took the winning move on lap-16 by Joe Abbass. Gary Schug, Kevin Donhauser and Doug Williams were also feature race leaders.

Chuck Powelczyk earned his third 15-lap Four Cylinder Super Stock feature race win of the season last Friday night. Russell Erwin, Joey Delacruz, Rich Rainville and Claude Hutchings Jr. followed Powelczyk across the finish line. Powelczyk passed Delacruz for the victory on lap-13. Adrian Gilbert and Rich Rainville were also main event race leaders.

ESDCA Mod Lite first time feature winner Darren Austin.

Morris Mathews won his first ever 25-lap Four Cylinder Enduro feature race last Friday night. Jerry Curcie Jr., Josh Herbert, Jerry Herbert and Art Dupra completed the top five feature finishers in the official order of finish.

Brewerton Speedway will return to competition this Tuesday, June 20 with the IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Super Stocks, Pure Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers all in action. Show time is 7:30 p.m.

Friday night excitement at the D-shaped DIRT Demon will start-up again on Friday, June 23 on Family Autograph Night. In race competition will be the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites and the Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Race time is 7:30 p.m.
