ISABELL
WINS VICTORIA 200 ALL STAR RACE QUALIFIER AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY /
JOHNSON CLAIMS ANOTHER TRACK TITLE
BREWERTON, NY...Jeff Isabell picked a good
time to win his first ever 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature race
at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. Isabell earned the victory in
the main event that offered a spot in the Victoria 200 All Star Race at
Fulton Speedway on October 1. Veteran Alan Johnson claimed his third
track title at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the last four seasons in the
Jeff Rudalavage owned car.
Isabell raced out to the early lead at
the start of the DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole starting
position. Action was stopped on lap one when Pat Ward and Tom Sears
tangled in the second turn. Ward's car would flop over, but both drivers
were able to restart the event. With five laps complete Vic Coffey, Bob
McCreadie, Ryan Phelps and Tony Buffa followed Isabell in the top five.
At the halfway mark of the fast paced
event Isabell, Coffey, McCreadie, Phelps and Tim Fuller raced in the top
five. Dale Planck, Matt Sheppard, Alan Johnson, Buffa and Gary Tomkins battled
in positions sixth through tenth respectively. The second and final
caution period of the race came for debris on the track on lap-21. The
field regrouped behind Isabell, but the outcome didn't change.
Isabell won his first ever DIRT Big
Block Modified feature race at the D-shaped DIRT Demon and in the
process earned a Fulton Speedway Victoria 200 All Star Qualifying race
spot. Coffey had to settle for second with McCreadie, Johnson and Phelps
completing the top five feature finishers. Johnson earned the 2005 track
title for yet another time, his third in four seasons.
It was a night for the Anderson's last
Friday in the IMCA Modified class. Bill Anderson Jr. won his first ever
20-lap main event. Bill Anderson Sr. earned the 2005 track title, his
second in three seasons. Johnny Hill, Erie Nier, Tony Finch and Carmen
Vona Jr. completed the top five feature finishers. Anderson Jr. took the
top spot away from Les Hubbard on lap-16 and would never give it back.
Anderson Sr. missed a few minor tangles on his way to his seventh place
feature finish which was good enough for the track title.
Tim Devendorf won his fifth 20-lap Mod
Lite feature race of the season last Friday night. With the victory
Devendorf added to his point lead with the final point show slated for
September 16. Dan Williams, Kevin Doll, Frank Doll Jr. and Steve
Miller finished in positions second through fifth respectively.
Devendorf made the winning move past Miller on lap eight.
Russell Erwin made it a clean sweep in
the Four Cylinder Super Stock division. Erwin won the 15-lap main event
as well as the 2005 season track title. Joey Delacruz, Todd Williamson,
Rich Rainville and Sam Curcie finished in positions second through fifth
respectively. Russell Erwin passed his brother Glen Erwin to
take command of the field on lap eight.
Chad Guthrie won both of the Four
Cylinder Enduro features last Friday night. Josh Herbert, Jerry Curcie
Sr., Chad Dupra and Sam Curcie trailed Guthrie in the opener. Troy
Engerbretsen, Chad Dupra, Art Dupra and Andy Butless followed Guthrie in
the second event.
The next event at Brewerton Speedway is
slated for Friday, September 16. The Sunoco Race Fuels combined
Sportsman Super DIRT Series will invade the D-shaped DIRT Demon plus the
Lias Tire IMCA Modified Series. The Mod Lites, Pure Stocks, Four
Cylinder Stocks and Four Cylinder Enduro racers will also be in
competition. Show time is 7:30 p.m. For more information please go on
