FULLER
AND TOMKINS WIN DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURES ON CHINA TOWNE
FURNITURE NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY...Tim Fuller and Gary Tomkins
each claimed a 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature win at Brewerton
Speedway last Friday on China Towne Furniture Night. Fuller scored a
thrilling victory over Bob McCreadie in the nightcap feature race. It
was Fuller's fourth feature win of the season. Tomkins earned the
victory in the rain delayed feature from July 8. It was Tomkin's third
win of the year.
Vic Coffey jumped out to the early lead
at the start of the nightcap DIRT Big Block Modified main event. With
five laps complete Coffey was being chased in the top five by Bob
McCreadie, Jeff Isabell, Pat Ward and Chuck Bower. Coffey would lead the
opening nine laps of the main event. McCreadie took the top spot away
from Coffey on lap-10.
Fuller became the third different
leader of the race on lap-12. At the halfway mark Fuller continued to
lead and was being followed in the top five by Ward, McCreadie, Matt
Sheppard and Billy Decker. Scott Prentice, Gary Tomkins, Alan Johnson,
Coffey and Steve Hulsizer raced in positions sixth through tenth
respectively at the halfway stage.
Just when it appeared that Fuller would
go unchallenged for the victory, McCreadie made a tremendous charge
using the bottom portion of the track. McCreadie got even and edged
ahead of Fuller on several occasions as the duo raced in two distinct
grooves. In the end, Fuller would hold on for the victory in the event
which had the large crowd in attendance on their feet.
McCreadie had to settle for a strong
second place finish. Ward, Decker and Johnson completed the top five
feature finishers.
Tom Sears Jr. raced out to the early
lead at the start of the rain delayed DIRT Big Block Modified feature
from the pole starting position. After five laps Sears continued to lead
and was being followed in the top five by Sean Beardsley, Steve Hulsizer,
Tomkins and Jim Witko. Sears would lead the first 14-laps of the main
event. Tomkins found room under Sears on lap-15 to take command of the
field.
At the halfway mark Tomkins was being
chased in the top five by Sears, Beardsley, Hulsizer and Billy Decker.
Witko, Scott Prentice, Alan Johnson, Ryan Phelps and Pat Ward raced in
positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage. Decker
worked up from the 13th starting position to third on lap-23.
One circuit later Decker lost power on the track and was done for the
event.
Johnson started to make his way to the
front in the late going. A caution with two laps to go regrouped the
field, but Johnson was unable to overtake Tomkins. It was the second
straight victory at the D-shaped DIRT Demon for the Elaine James
Motorsports team. The victory was worth $2,000. Johnson had to settle
for second while Tim Fuller moved up late for third. Sears and Prentice
completed the top five feature finishers.
Richard Townsend won his second
straight 20-lap IMCA Modified feature race of the season last Friday
night. Greg Kimball, Tim Hearne, Les Hubbard and Johnny Hill completed
the top five feature finishers behind Townsend. On lap eight Townsend
took the top spot away from Kimball and would lead the rest of the way
to the victory.
Doug Williams won his third 20-lap Mod
Lite feature race of the season last Friday night. Don Fenner, Frank
Doll Jr., Joe Abbass and Tim Devendorf followed Williams across the
finish line. Williams took the top spot away from Doll on lap-16 and
never gave it back.
Russell Erwin won his third 15-lap Four
Cylinder main event of the season last Friday night. Jeff Herbert, Rich
Rainville, Rich Murtaugh and Lorrie Herbert finished in positions second
through fifth respectively. Erwin took the top spot away from Jeff
Herbert on lap six and never gave it back.
Chad Guthrie earned the victory in the
25-lap Four Cylinder Enduro feature race. Chad Dupra, Randy Shantel,
Kelly Smith and Josh Herbert completed the top five feature finishers.
