SHEPPARD HOLDS OFF McCREADIE FOR FIRST DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE
WIN OF THE SEASON
BREWERTON, NY...Young Matt Sheppard held off
veteran Bob McCreadie to win his first Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block
Modified feature of the season last Friday. Sheppard took the top spot
away from McCreadie on lap-16 of the 35-lap main event and never gave it
back. The victory for the Ross Motorsports owned, G-U Hardware sponsored
machine was worth $2,000.
Bob McCreadie raced out to the early
lead at the start of the DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole
starting position. After five circuits McCreadie continued to lead and
was being followed in the top five by Sheppard, Jeff Isabell, Tony Buffa
and Ryan Phelps. With 10-laps complete McCreadie, Sheppard, Isabell,
Phelps and Buffa made up the top five positions in the talented field.
McCreadie would lead the first 15-laps
of the main event. Sheppard took command of the field on lap-16. At the
halfway mark Sheppard was being followed in the top five by McCreadie,
Isabell, Phelps and Billy Decker. Buffa, Jim Witko, Chuck Bower, Scott
Prentice and Vic Coffey raced in positions sixth through tenth
respectively at the halfway mark.
In the closing laps McCreadie stayed in
striking distance of Sheppard, but that was it. Sheppard earned his
first victory of the season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the caution
free event. McCreadie finished a strong second, his best finish of the
season. Decker came from the tenth starting position to finish third and
appeared to be the fastest car at the end of the event. Phelps and
Isabell completed the top five finishers with strong drives.
Tony Finch won his first ever 20-lap
IMCA Modified feature race last Friday night. To say that the win was a
popular one throughout the facility would be an understatement. Kevan
Cook, Tim Hearne, Mike Stolarcyk and Rich Townsend finished in positions
second through fifth respectively. Finch took the top spot away from
Calvin Painter on lap three. In the closing laps Finch held off several
challengers to earn the well deserved victory.
Tim Devendorf won his second 20-lap Mod
Lite feature race of the season last Friday night. Mark Cooper, Matt
Magner, Doug Williams and John Behron completed the top five feature
finishers in the race that was only slowed for one caution period.
Devendorf took the top spot away from Magner on lap-16 and held on for
the victory. Devendorf is the current point leader in the division.
Todd Williamson won his second straight
15-lap Four Cylinder Super Stock main event last Friday night. It was
Williamson's third victory of the season. Chuck Powelczyk, Russell
Erwin, Joey Delacruz and Aron Backus completed the top five feature
finishers. Wiiliamson took the lead away from Williamson on lap four and
never lost it.
Kelly Smith earned the victory in the
25-lap Four Cylinder Enduro main event. Chad Guthrie, Ron Hunt, Chad
Dupra and Josh Herbert completed the top five feature finishers in the
18-car starting field.
Action will continue this Friday at
Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds,
Mod Lites and Four Cylinder Super Stocks all in competition plus the
Stacker 2 Pro Stock Super DIRT Series event. Race time is set for 7:30
