ALAN
JOHNSON WINS FOURTH OF THE SEASON AT BREWERTON ON KINNEY DRUG STORES
NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY...Alan Johnson continued his
mastery of Brewerton Speedway last Friday on Kinney Drugs Stores Night.
Johnson won his fourth 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature race of
the season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Johnson worked up from the 14th
starting position to make the move for the victory past Matt Sheppard on
lap-28.
Steve Hulsizer raced out to the early
lead at the start of the Kinney Drugs Stores DIRT Big Block Modified
feature from the pole starting position. Hulsizer only led the first
circuit. Tim Fuller took the lead away from Hulsizer on lap two. With
five laps complete Fuller and Hulsizer were being followed in the top
five by Pat Ward, Ryan Phelps and Matt Sheppard.
Fuller would lead the talented field
through lap-13. Sheppard took the top spot away from Fuller at that
point. At the halfway mark Sheppard, Johnson, Fuller, Ward and Billy
Decker raced in the top five. Chuck Bower, Vic Coffey, Dale Planck, Gary
Tomkins and Sean Beardsley occupied positions sixth through tenth
respectively at the halfway mark.
Sheppard and Johnson put on quite a
show in racing for the top spot. It was on lap-28 when Johnson found
room under Sheppard entering the second turn. Once in front the driver
of the Jeff Rudalavage owned, WPC Associates sponsored car went on to
the $2,000 payday. Ward worked up for second, while Decker came from the
last starting position to finish third. Fuller and Sheppard completed
the top five.
Carmen Vona Jr. won his first 20-lap
IMCA Modified feature race of the season last Friday night. Bill
Anderson Sr., Johnny Hill, Les Hubbard and Bob Bradt followed Vona
across the finish line. Vona took the top spot away from Coleen Finch on
lap three and never gave it back.
Darren Forbes won his second 20-lap Mod
Lite feature race last Friday night. Lowell Zehr, Doug Williams, Frank
Doll Jr. and John Behron finished in positions second through fifth
respectively. Forbes took the top spot away from Don Fenner on lap nine.
In the closing laps Forbes held off his teammate Zehr for the feature
victory.
Chuck Powelczyk won his second 15-lap
Four Cylinder Super Stock feature race of the season last Friday night.
Todd Williamson, Rich Rainville, Rich Murtaugh and Mike Lewis completed
the top five feature finishers. Powelczyk took the top spot away from
Rainville on lap five and never lost it.
