on May 6. |
BREWERTON, NY...Alan Johnson won his second
straight 35-lap DIRT Modified feature race of the season last Friday at
Brewerton Speedway on Ferris Industries Night. Johnson took the top spot
away from Vic Coffey on lap-30 and went on to the hard fought victory in
the WPC Associates ride. The victory for the Jeff Rudalavage owned team
was worth $2,000.
Vic Coffey raced out to the early lead
at the start of the Ferris Industries DIRT Modified main event. With
just five circuits complete Coffey was being chased in the top five by
Jim Witko, Dale Planck, Mitch Gibbs and Tom Sears. Racing was slowed for
the first time when multi-time Track Champion Bob McCreadie slowed in
the third turn. On the restart Gary Tomkins, Pat Ward and Sears came
together in turn three.
When the event restarted Coffey was
looking to run away and hide from the remainder of the all star field.
At the halfway mark Coffey, Planck, Alan Johnson, Witko and Danny
Johnson raced in the top five. Tim Fuller, Billy Decker, Matt Sheppard,
Chuck Bower and Mitch Gibbs raced in positions sixth through tenth
respectively at the halfway stage.
Alan Johnson moved into the second
position on lap-21. He completed his charge from the 15th starting
position into the lead on lap-30. Once in front Johnson went on to the
victory. Decker also got by Coffey in the late going to earn a strong
second place finish. Coffey settled for third with Fuller and Planck
completing the top five feature finishers. Only two caution periods
slowed the event.
Bill Anderson Sr. also made it two for
two during the young season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the IMCA
Modified division. Johnny Hill, Mike Jeffries, Les Hubbard and Bill
Anderson Jr. finished in positions second through fifth respectively.
The elder Anderson recovered from the rear of the field after a first
lap tangle to earn the victory.
Doug Williams was the winner of the
20-lap Mod Lite main event last Friday. Williams won the main event by
inches ahead of opening night feature winner Tim Devendorf. Darren
Forbes, Mark Cooper and Don Fenner completed the top five feature
finishers. The 30-car Mod Lite feature race was hotly contested from the
drop of the green flag until the checkered flag.
Todd Williamson was the winner of the
15-lap Four Cylinder Super Stock main event. Russell Erwin, Chuck
Powelczyk, Jeff Herbert and Daryl Carl completed the top five feature
finishers in the 20-car starting field. Williamson took advantage of his
up front starting position to lead the entire event.
Race competition will resume this
Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA
Modifieds, Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Super Stocks and the Four Cylinder
Enduro racers all in action. One on One Spectator Races will also be
contested. Race time is 7:30 p.m. For more information please call the
