TOMKINS PASSES BEARDSLEY AT FINISH LINE TO WIN BREWERTON SPEEDWAY PROMOTION SPEED SUPPLY DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE

BREWERTON, NY...Gary Tomkins passed Sean Beardsley coming out of the fourth turn of the final lap to win the Promotion Speed Supply DIRT Big Block Modified feature race last Friday at Brewerton Speedway. Beardsley appeared headed to his first ever feature win after holding off Billy Decker and Tomkins for numerous circuits. But, Tomkins won the drag race to the finish line on the final lap to earn the victory. It was the second straight photo finish in the headline class at the D-shaped DIRT Demon.

Bob McCreadie jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Promotion Speed Supply DIRT Modified feature from the pole starting position. After five circuits the multi-time Brewerton Speedway DIRT Modified Track Champion continued to lead and was being followed in the top five by Tony Buffa, Beardsley, Scott Prentice and Chuck Bower. McCreadie would lead the first eight circuits.

Beardsley took the top spot away from McCreadie on the lap nine restart. At the halfway mark Beardsley was being followed in the top five by Prentice, Tomkins, McCreadie and Decker. Bower, Alan Johnson, Ryan Phelps, Tim Fuller and Vic Coffey raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage. Prentice started to apply the pressure to fellow local driver Beardsley as they battled for the lead.

The second and final caution period of the event came on lap 23. That would group the field together for another terrific finish at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Decker came charging on the restart and started to pressure Beardsley for the lead. On several occasions Decker tried to slide under Beardsley and take away the lead. But, on every occasion Beardsley held Decker off.

With the lead duo going at it, that allowed Tomkins to close in and it became a three car battle for the victory. At this time Decker fell back a bit, with Tomkins now looking to sneak under Beardsley. Just when it appeared that Beardsley would win his first ever DIRT Big Block Modified feature, Tomkins got the advantage down the front straight of the final lap to earn the victory.

It was the first win of the season for the Elaine James Motorsports team at Brewerton Speedway. The defending track champion earned $2,000 for his efforts. Beardsley had to settle for second place, still a tremendous effort for the local driver. Decker, Alan Johnson and Prentice completed the top five feature finishers in the crowd pleasing race.

Frank Doll won his second 20-lap Mod Lite feature race of the season last Friday night. John Behron, Tim Devendorf, Mark Cooper and Steve Miller followed Doll across the finish line. The Mod Lite feature race was a good one, with great competition throughout the track in the 30-car starting field. Doll made the winning pass on lap-12 as he swept around Behron.

Todd Williamson won his second 15-lap Four Cylinder Super Stock feature race last Friday night. Russell Erwin, Jeff Herbert, Joey Delacruz and Doug Farnsworth completed the top five feature finishers. Williamson took the top spot away from Erwin on lap four and never gave it back.

Mike Chilson claimed the win in the 20-lap Dean Hubbs Memorial IMCA Modified feature race last Friday night. Bill Anderson Sr., Sean Lias, Dale Caswell and Gary Jeffries followed Chilson across the finish line. Chilson took the lead from Lias on lap-13 and held off Anderson for his first victory in several seasons.

Josh Herbert won his first ever Four Cylinder Enduro feature race last Friday night. Matt Wetter, Chad Durpa, Jerry Herbert and Matt Fay completed the top five feature finishers.

Action will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Stocks and Four Cylinder Enduro cars all in action.
