FULLER
PASSES WARD ON FINAL LAP FOR DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE WIN
BREWERTON, NY...Tim Fuller won his second
straight Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified 35-lap feature race
the hard way last Friday. Pat Ward took the top spot away from Fuller on
lap-33 while racing in lapped traffic. Fuller came charging right back
though and stormed around Ward for the victory coming out of the fourth
turn of the final lap. To say that the race was a crowd pleasing affair
would be an understatement.
Scott Prentice raced out to the early
lead at the start of the DIRT Big Block Modified main event. After five
circuits Prentice continued to lead and was being followed in the top
five by Danny Johnson, Sean Beardsley, Tony Buffa and Chuck Bower.
Prentice was looking to run away and hide from the field, with battles
being staged throughout the field for position.
At the halfway stage Prentice continued
to lead and was being followed in the top five by Danny Johnson,
Beardsley, Fuller and Bower. Billy Decker, Ward, Gary Tomkins, Alan
Johnson and Steve Hulsizer raced in positions sixth through tenth at the
halfway mark in the highly competitive field. At several times during
the event fans were treated to plenty of three wide racing.
Prentice led the opening 22-laps of the
main event. Danny Johnson slipped by for the lead on lap-23. Fuller
started his charge to the front by using the top side of the
multi-groove track. Danny Johnson's lead was a brief one as Fuller took
away the top spot on lap-26. In the late stages of the event Ward was
the man on the move. Ward closed in on Fuller and boxed him in behind a
lapped car to take the lead on lap-33.
Fuller wasn't about to quit and came
right back at Ward. Fuller kept charging and swept around Ward coming
out of the fourth turn of the final circuit for the thrilling victory
which was worth $2,000 for the B&F General Machine team. Ward had to
settle for second with Danny Johnson, Tomkins and Alan Johnson
completing the top five feature finishers in the wild event.
Dale Caswell won his first 20-lap IMCA
Modified feature race of the season in a torrid battle over defending
Track Champion Johnny Hill. Tony Finch turned in his best effort of the
season with a strong third place finish. Two time feature winner Bill
Anderson Sr.finished fourth with Ken Rogers completing the top five.
Caswell took the top spot away from Hill on lap-15 and the duo raced
side by side until the finish.
Darren Forbes claimed his first 20-lap
Mod Lite feature race victory of the season last Friday night. Steve
Miller, Kevin DonHauser, Lowell Zehr and Mark Cooper finished in
positions second through fifth respectively. Forbes took the top spot
away Williams on lap-11 and held off Miller for his first victory since
his season ending injury last season.
Chuck Powelczyk continued the string of
first time winners this season and won his first 15-lap Four Cylinder
Stock feature event of 2005. Powelczyk was the winner in a photo finish
ahead of Todd Williamson. Rick Angle, Russell Erwin and Joey Delacruz
completed the top five feature finishers. Powelczyk passed Williamson on
lap-13 and held on for the victory.
