DECKER HOLDS OFF TOMKINS FOR SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON ON SYRACUSE.COM NIGHT

Billy Decker beat Gary Tomkins for his second DIRT Modified win of 2004 at Brewerton on Syracuse.com Night.

BREWERTON, NY...Billy Decker held off Gary Tomkins to earn his second 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature win of the season at Brewerton Speedway Friday on Syracuse.com Night. Decker took the top spot away from Tomkins on lap-20 and never gave it back even though Tomkins made several attempts to do so. The victory for the Gypsum Wholesalers DIRT Big Block Modified team was worth $2,000.

Craig Terrell raced out to the early lead at the start of the Syracuse.com DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. Terrell would lead the first four circuits of the main event. Former Brewerton Speedway Track Champion Chuck Bower took the lead away from Terrell on lap five. With five laps complete Bower was being followed in the top five by Terrell,  Tomkins, Decker and John Barker.

Bower would lead the talented field through lap nine. Tomkins became the third leader of the race on lap-10. At the halfway point of the main event Tomkins was being chased in the top five by Decker, Bower, Tim Fuller and Vic Coffey. Matt Sheppard, Ryan Phelps, Alan Johnson, Chuck Hebing and Pat Ward raced in positions sixth through tenth at the halfway mark.

Decker worked his way past Tomkins on lap-20 after several circuits of trying to do so. In the final laps Decker and Tomkins battled in and out of lapped traffic for the feature race victory. Decker never made a mistake and recorded the victory. Tomkins had to settle for second. Fuller, Bower and Sheppard completed the top five feature finishers in the event only slowed by one caution period.
Coffey, Johnson, Hebing, Ward and Phelps finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively. The feature race was a tremendous one with plenty of three and four wide competition.

Johnny Hill won his second straight and fifth IMCA Modified feature of the season Friday night. Bob Bradt, Dale Caswell, Les Hubbard and Gregg Kimball finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Hill took the lead away from Bradt on lap five and never lost it.

Steve Miller recorded his first win of the season in the 20-lap Dwarf Car / Mod Lite main event. John Behron, Don Fenner, Mike Isabell and Dan Williams completed the top five feature finishers. Behron was the highest finishing traditional Dwarf Car. Miller led the field from lap two and held off Behron for the victory.

Doug Farnsworth also became a first time feature winner for the 2004 season Friday night. Joey Delacruz, Lorrie Herbert, Daryl Carl and Jeff Herbert finished in positions second through fifth respectively in the 15-lap Four Cylinder Stock main event. Farnsworth inherited the lead on lap seven when race leader Ray Rainville dropped out of the race and he would never look back.

Chad Guthrie returned to the winners circle at the conclusion of the 25-lap Four Cylinder Enduro. Jerry Herbert, Mitch Pietrowicz, Matt Fay and Brian Courbat followed Guthrie in the top five.

Action will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars / Mod Lites and Four Cylinder Super Stocks all in competition. Ladies Races and a Drivers Tug Of War will also be contested. The evening will be highlighted by the appearance of the Ryan Newman #12 Alltel Show Car and video gaming area.
