SHEPPARD STORMS BY DECKER FOR DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN ON PICK-N-PULL AUTO PARTS NIGHT

 

Matt Sheppard passed rival Billy Decker late in the 35-lap Pick-N-Pull Auto Parts main event for his second win of 2004.

BREWERTON, NY...Matt Sheppard earned his second 35-lap Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified feature win of the season Friday on Pick-N-Pull Auto Parts Night. Sheppard took the top spot away from Billy Decker on lap-33 and never gave it back. The victory for the Adam Ross Cut Stone DIRT Big Block Modified team was worth $2,000.
 
     Bob McCreadie raced out to the early lead at the start of the Pick-N-Pull Auto Parts DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole starting position. McCreadie would only lead the first circuit and would slow on the track on lap two. Chuck Hebing was the official race leader of the second circuit. Billy Decker took the top spot away from Hebing on lap three.
 
     With 10 laps complete Decker continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Sheppard, Tim Fuller, Vic Coffey and Hebing. With the race half-over Decker was still leading the talented field with Shepard, Fuller, Coffey and Chuck Bower following. Hebing, Gary Tomkins, Pat Ward, Alan Johnson and Scott Prentice raced in positions sixth through tenth at the halfway stage.
 
     In the final stages of the event Sheppard appeared to have the quickest car. The youngster was able to close in on Decker and was looking for a way past. Finally on lap-33 Decker went low and that allowed Sheppard to storm by on the top side of the track. Decker attempted to come back, but Sheppard recorded his second feature win of the season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon.
 
     Decker had to settle for a second place finish. Coffey passed Fuller on the final lap to finish third. Tomkins, Johnson, Ward, Prentice, Jeremie Corcoran and Ryan Phelps finished in positions fifth through tenth respectively.
 
     Sean Lias won his sixth 20-lap IMCA Modified feature race of the season Friday night. Lias is currently the IMCA Modified national point leader. Current Brewerton Speedway point leader Johnny Hill finished second with Pat Pontello, Les Hubbard and Bill Anderson Sr. completing the top five feature finishers. Lias took the lead from Bill Anderson Jr. on lap three and never lost it.
 
     Tim Devendorf claimed his second feature win of the season in the 20-lap Dwarf Car / Mod Lite event. Frank Doll Jr. was the highest finishing traditional Dwarf Car with a strong second place finish. Mike Isabell, Don Fenner and Doug Williams completed the top five feature finishers in the caution delayed event.
 
     Daryl Carl earned his second win of the season in the Four Cylinder Super Stock main event. Chuck Powelczyk, Lorrie Herbert, Joey Delacruz and Russell Erwin completed the top five feature finishers. Carl passed Powelczyk for the eventual win on lap seven.
 
     Chad Guthrie was the winner of the 25-lap Four Cylinder Enduro main event Friday night. Mitch Pietrowicz, Sam Curcie, Jerry Herbert and Doe Lybolt finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Guthrie took the lead on lap-18 and held on in the wild affair.
 
     Race competition will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modified Empire State Series Race, Dwarf Cars / Mod Lites and Four Cylinder Super Stocks all in competition.
