JOHNSON PASSES PRENTICE ON FINAL LAP FOR BREWERTON SPEEDWAY DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE WIN ON FERNANDEZ AUTO MALL NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY...Alan Johnson won his third Brewerton Speedway 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature race of the season Friday on Fernandez Auto Mall Night in dramatic fashion. Johnson passed Scott Prentice coming out of the fourth turn of the final lap to earn the victory. The win for the H&H Motorsports DIRT Modified team was worth $2,000.

Scott Prentice jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Fernandez Auto Mall DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. After five circuits Prentice continued to lead and was being chased by Billy Decker, Sean Beardsley, Chuck Bower and Tim Sears. Prentice set a fast pace from the start and attempted to run away from the all-star field.

At the halfway point Prentice was now being chased in the top five by Decker, Matt Sheppard, Bower and Chuck Hebing. Gary Tomkins, Tim Fuller, Johnson, Pat Ward and Tim Sears raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage. At the front of the pack Prentice continued to hold off the many attempts at the lead by Decker.

Just when it appeared that Prentice had the race in hand, it was time for Johnson to make his charge. With just six laps to go Johnson was racing in the fourth position. He used the top side of the track to pass both Tomkins and Bower. Decker was the next driver to be passed by the defending track champion. Johnson then caught Prentice and pulled off the winning move on the fourth turn of the final lap.

Prentice had to settle for a strong second place finish with Decker, Tomkins and Fuller completing the top five feature finishers. Bower, Vic Coffey, Ward, Pat O'Brien and Hebing finished in positions sixth through tenth.

Johnny Hill earned his third 20-lap IMCA Modified feature race victory of the season Friday and in the process increased his season point lead. Sean Lias, Bill Anderson Sr., Bill Anderson Jr. and Les Hubbard followed Hill across the finish line. Hill passed Lias on lap-18 for the lead and he would never give it back.

Don Fenner won his second Dwarf Car / Mod Lite 20-lap feature race of the season Friday night. Tim Devendorf, Jeff Isabell, Matt Magner and Doug Williams chased Fenner across the finish line. Williams was the highest finishing traditional Dwarf Car. Fenner passed Devendorf for the feature win on lap-17.

Lorrie Herbert returned to the winners circle at the conclusion of the 15-lap Four Cylinder Stock main event. Chuck Powelczyk, Jeff Herbert, Doug Farnsworth and Russell Irwin finished in positions second through fifth. Herbert took the top spot away from Bruce Ackley on lap-two and would never give it up.

Phil Marsden won the 15-lap Pure Stock Challenge race. Dan Hoffman Sr., Ron Hawker, Dave Mannise and Chad Crouse completed the top five feature finishers. Marsden led the entire 15-lap distance from the outside pole starting position.

Professional DIRT Motorsports competition will return to Brewerton Speedway this Friday. In race action will be the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars / Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Super Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers.
