DECKER WINS FIRST OF THE SEASON AT BREWERTON
SPEEDWAY ON FERRIS INDUSTRIES NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY...Former Brewerton Speedway
DIRT Big Block Modified Track Champion Billy
Decker won his first feature of the 2004
season Friday on Ferris Industries Night.
Decker took the top spot away from Bob
McCreadie on lap-13 of the 35-lap event and
was never headed after that. The victory for
the Gypsum Wholesalers DIRT Big Block
Modified team was worth $2,000.
Bob McCreadie raced out to the early
lead at the start of the Ferris Industries
DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the
pole starting position. After five circuits
the multi-time Brewerton Speedway Track
Champion continued to lead and was being
chased in the top five by Tom Sears, Craig
Terrell, Matt Sheppard and Decker. Action
was stopped on lap seven for a multi-car
crash that started down the back stretch.
Close to eight cars were gathered in
the ordeal with only Chuck Hebing and Ryan
Odasz eliminated for the event. When the
event restarted Bob McCreadie was looking to
run away and hide from the rest of the
field. Decker showed that he had a strong
car early as he moved into the runner-up
spot on lap 10. After several laps of trying
to do so, Decker worked his way under
McCreadie for the lead on lap-13.
At the halfway mark Decker continued to
lead and was being followed in the top five
by Bob McCreadie, Tom Sears, Chuck Bower and
Alan Johnson. Racing in positions sixth
through tenth respectively at the halfway
mark in order included Gary Tomkins, Matt
Sheppard, Tim McCreadie, Terrell and Pat
Ward. In the closing laps Decker had the
field covered and recorded the feature
victory.
Chuck Bower had his best finish of the
season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon with a
strong second place finish. Feature winners
this season Johnson, Tomkins and Fuller
completed the top five feature finishers.
Tim McCreadie, Bob McCreadie, Pat Ward, Matt
Sheppard and Scott Prentice finished in
positions second through fifth respectively.
Dale Caswell claimed his first feature
win of the 2004 season in the IMCA Modified
main event. Les Hubbard, Bill Anderson Jr.,
Mike Jeffries and Sean Lias followed Caswell
across the finish line. Caswell took the
lead for good on lap-12 after passing
Jeffries.
John Behron was the winner of the
20-lap Dwarf Car / Mod Lite feature event.
Behron was the second straight winner in a
traditional Dwarf Car. Darren Forbes, Steve
Miller, Don Fenner and Matt Magner completed
the top five feature finishers. Forbes was
the highest finishing Mod Lite. Behron
passed Magner for the top spot on lap-16.
Lorrie Herbert won her third straight
Four Cylinder Super Stock feature race
Friday night. Jeff Herbert, Chuck Powelczyk,
Lee Hartzog and Walt VanEpps completed the
top five feature finishers. Lorrie Herbert
took the top spot away from Tony VanEpps on
lap five and led the rest of the distance in
the 15-lap affair.
