JOHNSON'S BATTLE IT OUT IN LEAF RACEWEAR 100 IN FRONT OF STANDING ROOM ONLY CROWD

BREWERTON, NY...A standing room only crowd witnessed a terrific battle between Alan Johnson and Jack Johnson on Thursday night at Brewerton Speedway in the season ending Super DIRT Week special. Alan Johnson slipped by Jack Johnson on lap-96 and earned the victory in the Leaf Racewear 100-lap Turning Stone Casino 358 Modified Super DIRT Series event.

Jack Johnson raced out to the early lead at the start of the Leaf Racewear 100 from the pole starting position. With 10 laps complete the legendary driver was being followed in the top five by Alan Johnson, Frank Cozze, Pete Bicknell and Ronnie Johnson. The battle for the lead was intense from the start between both Johnson's with great action throughout the pack.

At the halfway mark Jack Johnson and Alan Johnson were being followed in the top five by Bicknell, Mitch Gibbs and Tim Fuller. Pat Ward, Ronnie Johnson, Dale Planck, Frank Cozze and Ray Hoard raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage. The talented drivers throughout the field raced three and four wide all over the race surface.

Alan Johnson made several attempts to take the top spot away from Jack, but was never able to complete the pass. Just when it appeared that Jack Johnson was going to hold off the multi-time Brewerton Speedway Track Champion the final caution period of the race came out on lap-89. The event was restarted on lap-92 with the race still up for grabs.

Finally on lap-96 Alan Johnson was able to slip by Jack Johnson for the top spot. Jack Johnson came right back, but Alan Johnson was able to hold on for the victory in the Eric Kingsley owned car. The victory for the Tracey Road Equipment team was worth $4,000. Fuller, Gibbs and Bicknell completed the top five feature finishers in the 30-car starting field.

Tim Devendorf concluded the Brewerton Speedway Dwarf Car / Mod Lite season with a feature win in the 20-lap season finale Thursday night. Joe Garafolo, Barry Virts, John Behron and Joe Isabell finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Devendorf ended a very successful season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon which included the 2004 Track Championship.

The 2004 season at Brewerton Speedway will come to an official close on Saturday, November 6 with the Awards Banquet that will be held at the Syracuse Wyndham.
