A.J. COMES OUT ON TOP IN BATTLE ON A&P AUTO PARTS NIGHT
BREWERTON,
NY…Fans were treated to a typical Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block
Modified feature race last Friday on A&P Auto Parts Night. After
numerous lead changes between four drivers, it was Alan Johnson coming
out on top of the virtual All Star Cast at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. It
was Johnson’s sixth feature victory of the season in the Elaine James
Motorsports entry.
Bob McCreadie raced out to the
early lead at the start of the A&P Auto Parts DIRT Big Block
Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. McCreadie led
the first five circuits before Scott Prentice took command of the top
spot on lap six. Prentice would lead the seventh circuit as well before
McCreadie regained the top spot on lap eight.
With 10 laps complete Bob
McCreadie continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by
Prentice, Steve Hulsizer, Frankie Caprara and Billy Decker. In the
middle stage of the race the driver on the move was Pat Ward. On lap 17
Ward worked his way past McCreadie to take the lead. Ward would lead
through lap 19 as on the 20th circuit Bob McCreadie regained
the top position.
While McCreadie and Ward were
battling for the lead Alan Johnson was making his charge to the front.
It was on lap 25 when Johnson snuck under both drivers for the lead.
Johnson was trying to open up his advantage and hide from the field but
Tim McCreadie had a different plan. McCreadie came from the rear of the
field after an early race tangle and moved into the second spot on lap
30.
During the final five circuits
Tim McCreadie was able to close in on Johnson. The lead never changed
hands again as McCreadie was denied his third straight victory.
Steve Hulsizer, Bob McCreadie and Ward completed the top five
feature finishers. Craig Terrell, Billy Decker, Frankie Caprara, Tom
Sears and Chuck Hebing finished in positions sixth through tenth
respectively.
Former Brewerton Speedway IMCA
Modified Track Champion Bob Bradt won his first feature race of the 2003
season last Friday night. Bill Anderson Jr., Les Hubbard, George Valenti
and Bill Anderson Sr. followed Bradt across the finish line. Bradt took
the lead away from Ken Rogers on lap nine and led the rest of the
distance in the 20-lap event.
Tim Devendorf won his second
straight Brewerton Speedway Dwarf Car feature race last Friday night.
Bob Garafolo, Dan Boyce, Steve Miller and John Behron completed the top
five feature finishers behind Devendorf. Bob Garafolo led the opening 12
circuits of the main event before Devendorf came away with the top spot
on lap 13. Devendorf held off Garafolo in the closing laps in the 20-lap
affair.
Chuck Powelczyk claimed his
ninth Brewerton Speedway Four Cylinder Stock feature race victory last
Friday evening. Jeff Herbert, Ken Clark, Lorrie Herbert and Russ Wassner
completed the top five feature finishers behind Powelczyk. On lap 12
Powelczyk took the top spot away from Jeff Hebert and led the rest of
the way in the 15-lap event.
Claude Hutchings was the
winner of the Four Cylinder Enduro main event. Chad Guthrie, Mitch
Pietrowicz, Joe Davis and Dave Emmons completed the top five feature
finishers.
Action will continue this
Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA
Modifieds, Dwarf Cars and Four Cylinder Stocks all in competition.
Ladies Races will also be contested. Race time is set for 7:30 p.m. For
