PRENTICE BEATS FULLER IN PHOTO FINISH ON KINNEY DRUGS / FERRIS NIGHT
BREWERTON,
NY…Scott Prentice beat Tim Fuller in a photo finish last Friday at
Brewerton Speedway in the DIRT Big Block Modified feature on Kinney Drug
Stores / Ferris Industries Night. Prentice and Fuller raced side by side
during the final 16 circuits of the 35-lap event before Prentice earned
the victory by inches at the finish line. It was the first victory of
the season for Prentice at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the Benwood Auto
Parts car.
Scott Prentice jumped out to
the early lead at the start of the Kinney Drug Stores / Ferris
Industries DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole
starting position. After five laps Prentice continued to lead and was
being followed in the top five by Frankie Caprara, Tim Fuller, Tom Sears
and Bob McCreadie. Several minor caution periods slowed the action.
Prentice was up to the
challenge on every restart with several drivers moving up from the
field. With ten laps complete Prentice was now being followed in the top
five by Tim Fuller, Caprara, Bob McCreadie and Billy Decker. The final
caution of the event came on lap 19 and that set up 16 straight laps
under green flag conditions.
Fuller continued to look for
room under Prentice. At first the lead duo battled together, but in the
closing laps lapped traffic came into play. Fuller was the official race
leader on lap 33 and Prentice came right back to lead the following
circuit. The race was in doubt until the finish line where Prentice won
by just inches. It was his fifth career victory at the track.
Fuller had to settle for
second with Tim McCreadie, Pat Ward and Frankie Caprara completing the
top five feature finishers. Bob McCreadie, Billy Decker, Steve Hulsizer,
Craig Terrell and John Barker crossed the finish line in positions sixth
through tenth respectively. With his third place finish Tim McCreadie
closed the gap in the season point standings over Alan Johnson who
failed to finish.
Dale Caswell claimed his first
ever IMCA Modified feature race victory at Brewerton Speedway last
Friday night. George Valenti, Rich Riggs, Bob Bradt and Bill Anderson
Jr. completed the top five feature finishers. Caswell took the lead away
from Ken Rogers on lap three. The rookie driver would lead the rest of
the way in the 20-lap affair.
Steve Miller won his second
Dwarf Car feature race of the season last Friday at Brewerton Speedway.
Dan Boyce, John Behron, Darren Forbes and Lowell Zehr followed Miller
across the finish line. Miller took the lead away from Boyce on lap-13
and he would lead the rest of the distance to claim the victory in the
20-lap contest.
Chuck Powelczyk won his tenth
Four Cylinder Stock feature race of the 2003 season last Friday night.
Lorrie Herbert, Jeff Herbert, Russ Wassner and Aaron Backus followed
Powelczyk across the finish line. Powelczyk took the lead away from
Jerry Curcie on lap four and he would lead the rest of the way in the
15-lap event.
Ladies race winners were Liz
Halliday in the IMCA Modified class, Stacey Burdick in the Dwarf Car
class and Cheryl Van Epps in the Four Cylinder Stock division.
Racing will continue this
Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA
Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and Four Cylinder Enduro
racers all in action plus One on One Spectator Races. Race time is set
for 7:30 p.m. For more information please call the track office at
