FULLER AND JOHNSON SPLIT BUDWEISER BEER DIRT BIG BLOCK VICTORIES IN WILD NIGHT AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY
BREWERTON,
NY…Tim Fuller and Alan Johnson split the DIRT Big Block Modified
feature wins at Brewerton Speedway last Friday on Budweiser Beer Night.
Fuller claimed the win in the rain delayed 35-lap main event, which was
stopped for a wild crash on lap six. Johnson recovered to win the
nightcap 35-lap feature race after dropping out of the first event. Both
drivers earned $1,700 for their feature victories.
Tom Sears raced out to the
early lead at the start of the rain delayed DIRT Big Block Modified
feature. Sears continued to lead the field through lap six when the
event was stopped for a wild crash on the front stretch. Involved in the
ordeal were Jeremie Corcoran, Dave Stonebraker and Jim Burke. The crash
started when Corcoran bounced off the front stretch wall that then was
hit by Stonebraker and then by Burke.
Burke’s car flipped after
hitting the car of Corcoran, while the car of Stonebraker developed a
brief oil fire. All drivers escaped injury in the show-stopping
incident. Sears restarted the event as the race leader, but Fuller came
away with the lead on lap eight. Fuller wasted little time charging up
from the 10th starting position to the lead, mostly using the
topside of the racing surface.
Bob McCreadie moved into the
second position on lap 18 and quickly moved into striking distance of
Fuller. In the final laps McCreadie closed right in on Fuller with
several lapped cars in the equation. Fuller never made the mistake that
McCreadie needed and the Edwards, N.Y. drivers claimed his second win of
the season in the B&F General Machine car.
Bob McCreadie had to settle
for a strong second place finish. Pat Ward made a late race charge to
finish third. Past feature winners Tim McCreadie and Billy Decker
completed the top five feature finishers in the rain-delayed event.
At the start of the regular
35-lap Budweiser DIRT Modified feature outside pole starter Tom Sears
jumped out to the early lead. After five circuits Sears was being
followed in the top five by Craig Terrell, Mike Prentice, Jimmy Phelps
and Chuck Hebing. Sears would lead the opening 10 laps of the main
event.
Alan Johnson took the lead
away from Sears on lap 11. Johnson was looking to bounce back from the
first feature, which he failed to finish. In the late going Johnson lost
the lead he had built with some heavy lapped traffic. Bob McCreadie and
Tim McCreadie closed right in on Johnson. But the defending Brewerton
Speedway Track Champion made all the right moves to claim the win.
The victory was the third of
the season for the Elaine James Modified team. Bob McCreadie closed out
the night with his second straight runner-up finish. Tim McCreadie came
from the rear of the starting field to finish third. Chuck Bower also
came from the back of the pack to finish fourth, while Fuller ended a
good evening with a fifth place finish.
Pat Pontello crossed the
finish line first at the conclusion of the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature.
Rich Keller, Rich Townsend, Tom Ralph and Les Hubbard crossed the finish
line in positions second through fifth respectively. Pontello passed
Sean Lias on lap 19 and the duo came together on the final circuit with
Pontello going on to the win while Lias dropped to a 12th
place finish.
Doug Farnsworth won his first
ever Four Cylinder Stock feature race in the rain-delayed event. Chuck
Powelczyk, Rick Angle, Russ Wassner and Ken Clark completed the top five
feature finishers behind Farnsworth. Farnsworth led the entire 15-lap
distance except for lap five.
Chuck Powelczyk returned to
the winner’s circle at the conclusion of the regular Four Cylinder
Stock feature. Rick Angle, Doug Farnsworth, Russ Wassner, Chad Brazo
crossed the finish line in positions second through fifth respectively.
Powelczyk passed Angle on lap four and led the rest of the 15-lap event.
Steve Miller claimed the win
in the 20-lap Dwarf Car feature race. Scott Nash, Dan Boyce, Tod Simons
and Shawn Hort completed the top five feature finishers behind Miller.
Miller took the lead away from Nash on lap eight and led the rest of the
distance in the 20-lap event. Kevin Donhauser led the opening two laps
of the main event.
Jerry Herbert was the winner
of the Four Cylinder Enduro race. Ron Hunt, Mitch Pietrowicz, Sam Curcie
and Chad Guthrie completed the top five feature finishers behind
Herbert.
Racing will continue
this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the Holiday Spectacular. In race
competition will be the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf
Cars and Four Cylinder Stocks plus a gigantic fireworks display. The
DIRT Modifieds will battle in a 45-lap special while the IMCA Modifieds
and Dwarf Cars will compete in double features. Race time is set for
7:30 p.m. For more information please call the track office at
