FESTIVE ENDING TO THE 2002 RACE SEASON FOR BREWERTON SPEEDWAY AND FULTON SPEEDWAY COMPETITORS

VERONA, NY…The 2002 race season for Brewerton Speedway and Fulton Speedway concluded recently with a combined Awards Banquet for the two popular Central New York facilities. The Turning Stone Casino Resort in Verona, N.Y. was the festive location for the affair. All in attendance were treated to a huge buffet style dinner before the season awards were presented. Several special driver drawings were held throughout the night, with one lucky competitor winning $1,000.

     Alan Johnson was honored for winning his first ever DIRT Big Block Modified Track title at Brewerton Speedway in the Elaine James Motorsports entry. Drivers receiving their awards including Chuck Bower, Pat Ward, Scott Prentice, Jimmy Phelps and Frankie Caprara followed Johnson in the season rankings.

     Mike Payne capped a successful season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon and was honored for winning the DIRT 358 Modified track title.

     Bill Anderson Sr., Richard Townsend, Joe Price Jr., Mike Chilson, Les Hubbard, Bill Anderson Jr. and Tony Finch were the drivers honored for their top ten finish in the highly competitive IMCA Modified division at Brewerton Speedway.

     Tod Simons claimed the 2002 Brewerton Speedway Dwarf Car track title. Steve Miller, Darren Forbes, Scott Nash, Dan Boyce, Bob Garafolo, Joe Garafolo, Dan Williams, Jeff Isabell and Tim Burdick followed Simons in the standings.

     Roger West Sr. earned the 2002 Brewerton Speedway Four Cylinder Stock season championship. John West, Chris Smith, Jeremy Bargabos, Harvey Calkins Jr., Jeff Herbert, Chuck Powelczyk, Walt Van Epps and Darik Van Epps completed the top ten in the season rankings.

     Chad Guthrie became the first ever Four Cylinder Enduro track champion at Brewerton Speedway. Sam Curcie and Ron Hunt followed in the standings.

     Frankie Caprara (DIRT Modified), Bill Anderson Sr. (IMCA Modified), Bob Garafolo (Dwarf Car) and Jeff Herbert (Four Cylinder Stock) were named as Most Improved Drivers at Brewerton Speedway. Greg Smith of Can-Am Enterprises presented the awards.

     Richard Townsend (IMCA Modified), Dan Williams (Dwarf Car) and Jeremy Bargabos (Four Cylinder Stock) received their awards for Rookie of the Year at the D-Shaped DIRT Demon.

     Alan Johnson claimed his second ever Fulton Speedway DIRT 358 Modified track title this past season in the Maroney Motorsports entry. Jimmy Phelps, Tom Sears Jr., Jeff Rudalavage, Gordy Button, John Barker Jr., Jeremy Smith and Justin Haers were also honored for this season accomplishments.

     Mike Button earned the 2002 Fulton Speedway DIRT Sportsman track title. Ryan Richardson, Tim Sears, Greg Doust, Jeremy Pitcher, Bill Shantel Jr., Donnie Wetmore Jr., Jim Bowman, Shawn Donath and Walt McArdell followed Button in the rankings.

     Jeremy Clark claimed his first ever Fulton Speedway DIRT Pro Stock championship last season. T.J. Fitzgibbons, Lee Burnett, Dave Fox, Keith Butler, Paul Stoneburg, Ricky Breed and Jack Terrell followed Clark in the standings.

     Chris Cunningham earned the 2002 Pure Stock track title at Fulton Speedway. Phil Marsden, Darren Kelso, Russ Marsden, Dave Marcuccilli, Curt Prevo, Joe Buske and Ken Conners followed Cunningham in the final standings.

     Rodney Buskey claimed the first ever Fulton Speedway Four Cylinder Enduro track title. Raymond Woolson and Jay McGillicuddy completed the top three in the final rankings.

     Jeremy Smith (358 Modified), Ryan Richardson (Sportsman), Keith Butler (Pro Stock) and Chris Cunningham (Pure Stock) were named as the Most Improved Drivers at Fulton Speedway. Greg Smith of Can-Am Enterprises made the presentations.

     Justin Haers (358 Modified), Eric Richardson (Sportsman), Lee Burnett (Pro Stock) and Dave Marcuccilli (Pure Stock) were named as the 2002 Fulton Speedway Rookies of the Year.

      All track champions received a special jacket in recognition for their success this past season at both tracks.

      Special awards were presented to the WIXT-TV9 Sports Department, Carl Tellier of Dynomax, the Volney Fire Department, Elaine James Motorsports, Jeff Rudalavage and to Helen Wall.

     Dwarf Car driver Wayne Younglove walked away from the affair with $1,000. Younglove was the final name drawn from the regular competitors in attendance at the banquet. Jeff Herbert also earned $100 in the contest.

     Well over 70 prizes were handed out during the event in both a door prize and competitor drawings. Special thanks to Leaf Racewear, Can-Am Enterprises, J.E. Pistons, Bassett Wheels, J.R.
