TOP DRIVERS HONORED AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY BANQUET

BREWERTON, NY…The top ten drivers in the DIRT Modified, IMCA Modified, Dwarf Car and Four Cylinder Super Stocks were all honored at the recent 2001 Brewerton Speedway Awards Banquet at Sam’s Lakeside Restaurant in Brewerton, N.Y. Over $19,000 in cash and awards was distributed to the competitors at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the final official gathering of the season.

Billy Decker claimed the 2001 DIRT Modified Track Championship. Alan Johnson, Tim McCreadie, Tim Fuller, Chuck Bower, Scott Prentice, Pat Ward, Jimmy Phelps, Steve Hulsizer and Frankie Caprara followed Decker in the standings.

     Steve Hulsizer was honored as the Brewerton Speedway DIRT 358 Modified Track Champion. Frankie Caprara earned the 2001 DIRT Modified Rookie of the Year Award. Tim McCreadie was named as the Most Improved Driver in the DIRT Modified class.

     Bob Bradt claimed his second straight IMCA Modified Track title. Johnny Hill, Brian House, Bill Anderson Sr., Les Hubbard, Mike Chilson, Bill Anderson Jr., John Matyjasik, Tony Finch and Jeff Cardinale followed Bradt.

     Brian House was named the IMCA Modified Rookie of the Year. Johnny Hill earned the Most Improved Driver in the IMCA Modified ranks.

     Tony Buffa repeated his Dwarf Car championship from one year ago. Following Buffa in the standings were Darren Forbes, Barry Virts, Scott Nash, Ken Gamlen, Bob Magner, Steve Miller, Shawn Hort, Matt Magner and Lowell Zehr.

     Barry Virts was awarded the ESDCA Sportsmanship Award. Oly Johnson was named the Hard Luck Driver. Lowell Zehr earned the Most Improved Driver. Team Sterling earned the Best Appearing Car Award. The ESDCA Dwarf Car Special Appreciation Award was presented to Brewerton Speedway Promoter Harvey Fink.

     Harvey Calkins Jr. claimed the Four Cylinder Super Stock track title. Brian Evenden, Chris Smith, Dave Myrto, Roger West, Bob Whipple, Jason Amidon, Kevan Cook, Tim Koch and Chris Bargabos followed Calkins in the rankings.

     Brian Evenden earned the Most Improved Driver Award in the Four Cylinder Super Stock class. Chris Smith was named as the Rookie of the Year in the division.

     The husband and wife team of Tony and Coleen Finch were presented the Dedication to Auto Racing Award. Dave and Nancy MacDonald were presented with an Appreciation Award for leading the Junior Fan Club. Veteran Pace Car Driver Ron DeYulio was presented a track jacket for his dedicated service.

     All five-track champions were also presented with a jacket to remember their special season at the Friday night Central New York home of DIRT Motorsports.

     Everyone in attendance at the Brewerton Speedway Banquet had to have a good time. The evening started off with a cocktail/appetizers hour. A huge buffet dinner followed. The Awards presentation followed the meal. And the evening concluded with some interesting entertainment.

     Brewerton Speedway will open tentatively for the 2002 season on April 19. Announcements on the new season will continue to follow.
