Chris Hile Wins His First Ever Brewerton Speedway Modified Feature

By Dave Medler

BREWERTON, NY – June 10,2016 –
Chris Hile from Syracuse, NY over the years has had many top five Brewerton Speedway finishes and led many features only to just miss victory lane in the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds.

All that changed for Hile Friday in the 35 lap main, taking the lead on lap 5 restart and never looking back. Hile would hold off first Tom Sears Jr., survive caution periods and then a late race charge from Jimmy Phelps for his first popular trip to victory lane. Matt Sheppard, Tom Sears Jr. and Chad Phelps finished third through fifth. Larry Wight, Matt Hulsizer, Jim Witko Jr., Ryan Phelps and Rob Bellinger completed the top ten.

After parking his Lightning Management/Scott Jeffery’s Performance/Gypsum Express/LJL Kevlar Racing Engines/Team Dirt Dog/No.5H/Bicknell in victory lane Hile, surrounded by family and friends, talked about his first ever “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” win.

“That was a heck of a run. It always helps to start up front. I’ve got an awesome family that works so hard on this stuff. To finally get a win here at Brewerton is awesome. We have been trying for years. It’s a great start to the season here and we just got to keep it rolling.”

Hile went on to talk about his early season runs. “This car has been awesome. Bicknell Racing Products puts together a heck of a race car. We’ve been really good the start of the year here. We had a little mishap here and there that gave us some bumps and scrapes on the way but ever since we debuted this car at the end of last year this car has been awesome and continues on for us.”

Hile finished up by saying that finally getting a win for his amazing family owned team after years of trying and being so close so many times was awesome and couldn’t thank everyone enough that makes it happen.

Another strong field of 34 SUNY Canton Sportsman signed in the pits. It would take four heats and two consolations to set the 25 car starting field.

In the wild 25 lap feature Earl Rudy would led the opening 7 laps before Zach Sobotka would take command of the race with a power move on the top of the speedway on lap 8 to be shown as the new leader. Sobotka would lead and open an over one second lead when he spun on his own in turn one at the halfway point.

The move of the race came on the restart when Glenn Forward went from fifth to second and set his sights on new leader Ricky Yelle. It would take Forward just one lap to get by Yelle. Once out front there was no stopping Forward as he went on to outdistance Todd Root at the finish. Ricky Yelle, Kevin Root and Billy Clark Jr. finished third through fifth.

Glenn Forward, in just his first season running the SUNY Canton Sportsman at the Brewerton Speedway, celebrated his first ever Brewerton win.

“We had a good car tonight. Started a little rough in the heat. Sometimes the nerves get the best of you. Started deep (13th) made a shock change, my shock guy Mike from Fastline performance, Fox Shocks made a good call tonight that made the outside work for us.”

“I have to thank my family, we’re a big family team. We ran Utica last night and finished second but there is still a lot of work to do. My dad was on tires, had my mom changing the oil and spark plugs, my wife cleaning it. It’s a family operation. I’ve got a lot of good sponsors, Hutchings Tree Service, JR Fuller Trucking, Ted’s Body Shop, H&R Refuse and everybody who stuck with us.”

After seeing a feature win slip away, the week before on the final lap, Jim Bogett turned it around with a convincing 20 lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lites feature win. Bogett took the lead on lap 3 and would hold off a furious late race challenge from Joe Isabell. Doug Williams, Jeremy Isabell and Sam Usborne finished third through fifth.

“I had more people call me this week about what happened last week (Losing lead on last lap) than if I had won,” said Jim Bogett after parking his Firehouse Subs/Pro Race Cars/No.1 in victory lane. “It feels good to get the win tonight.”

“I definitely didn’t need that last caution because my car was getting looser and looser. The last couple laps I saw him (Joe Isabell) try and sneak underneath me a couple times. I figured I just need to hold my line do what I can do with it.”

Chuck Powelczyk would get spun to the infield on the opening lap of the 15 lap JB Logging & Firewood four-cylinder feature. Instead of bringing out the caution he would keep going and erase a huge deficit and then go on to his second straight feature win over three time feature winner Ray Bechler. Donnie Rider, Colby Herzog and Tim Dunn would finish third through fifth.
