Itís Crunch Time In The Drive To Brewerton Speedway Championships

By Dave Medler - BREWERTON, NY - July 28, 2015 - It seems just like yesterday the staff of the Brewerton Speedway opened the gates in early May for the 2015 racing season. Now it’s crunch time starting this Friday, July 31 as there are only six events left to decide this season's track champions before the higher paying races after Labor Day weekend.

This Friday CJ’s Car America will present a night of exciting racing where adult grandstand admission is only $12 and everyone 18 yrs. old and younger are FREE.

On the race card will be the Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders plus the NY6A 600 Sprint Tour. Pro Race Cars Mod Lites will have the night off.

Recap Of July 24 Racing Plus Top-Five Division Point Standings Coming Into July 31

(Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds) -  Jimmy Phelps who on a weekly basis due to handicapping most races would come from deep in the field and would rack up top finishes that would add up to the points lead. A feature victory eluded him until last Friday when he grabbed his first feature win of the season. Phelps would make the winning pass on Lap-21, taking the lead from a tough Rob Bellinger and then went on to the 35-Lap win. TOP-FIVE POINT STANDINGS - Jimmy Phelps 488. Matt Sheppard 474. Billy Decker 438. Pat Ward 434. Ryan Phelps 390.

(SUNY Canton Sportsman) - Ron Davis III won his third feature of the year the hard way. Davis took the lead on Lap-11 of the 25-Lap feature. Once in the lead Davis not only had to fight off a talented field but also had to fight a tough handling car that was running on a flat front tire. TOP-FIVE POINT STANDINGS - Ron Davis III 473. Jack Meeks 440. Tony Finch 420. Nick Krause 396. Ricky Yelle 389.

(Pro Race Cars Mod Lites) - Jeff Isabell Jr. brought out an older car last Friday but the result was the same with a trip to victory lane. Isabell took the lead on Lap-9 and then outdistanced Mike Mullen to the checkers. (TOP-FIVE POINT STANDINGS) - Joe Isabell 684. Jim Bogett 664. Mike Mullen 638. Jeff Sykes 626. Lowell Zehr 590.

(Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders) - Coming into the 2015 season one of the goals for Chuck Powelczyk was to get to 80 wins in the division. Last Friday Powelczyk did just that, grabbing the milestone victory. (TOP-FIVE POINT STANDINGS) - Chuck Powelczyk 576. Colby Herzog 514. Chris Bonoffski 506. Sam Curcie 440. Sam Carista 428.
