Billy Decker And Ron Davis III Outrun The Competition And The Rain At The Brewerton Speedway

By Dave Medler – BREWERTON, NY – June 5, 2015 - Friday night in a race against Mother Nature the Brewerton Speedway was able to complete the SUNY Canton Sportsman and Tracey Road Equipment Modified features before the rains moved over the speedway ending the night's racing.

The Pro Race Car Mod Lites and Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinder features will be run this Friday, June 12th. For fans that were in attendance, Family Autograph Night will be rescheduled for a later date.

The 35-Lap Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature started out in a rough way in the early going with a multi-car crash that saw Matt Billings get the worst of it. At full speed down the back chute cars were racing hard for position that saw contact that sent Matt Billings into a series of hard flips with his car coming to rest just outside of turn three. Due to all the safety equipment Billings was able to walk away. Other cars involved were Larry Wight, Tom Sears Jr., Andrew Ferguson and Tim Kerr. Kerr was able to continue.

Once the field got back to green and started putting laps together Chris Hile was showing the way out front at the 10-Lap mark as Ryan Phelps and Billy Decker tried to cut into Hile’s lead. Just behind the top-three Pat Ward and Chuck Bower fought inside the top-five.

At the halfway point Hile was still at the front of the field but was now starting to feel pressure from Phelps, Decker and Ward.

A quick yellow would wave on Lap-21 with the restart showing a new leader. When the green came back out Decker would use the top of the speedway to drive by Hile on Lap-22 to be scored the new leader.

Chris Hile, while running second, would see his strong run to an end on Lap-25 when he suddenly slowed with mechanical problems.

One last yellow would wave on Lap-32 putting the fastest car on the speedway in points leader Jimmy Phelps on Decker’s back bumper for a dash to the checkers. On the restart Decker was too quick as he was first under the checkers by a little over one second over Jimmy Phelps. Ryan Phelps, Pat Ward and Matt Sheppard finished third through fifth.

Gregg Kimball would get the early jump and lead the early going in the entertaining and competitive 25-Lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature.

With 10-Laps complete and tight racing throughout the field Kimball held a narrow lead as Mike Prentice, Ricky Yelle, Ron Davis III and Tony Finch II battled for second through fifth.

At the halfway point Kimball was able to open around a ten-car length advantage. Prentice ran alone in second while Yelle, Davis and Finch were still putting on a show in the top-five.

On Lap-18 Davis was able to move into second place just before a yellow would wave setting up an 8-Lap dash to the win.

Over the last laps Kimball, Davis and Finch put on a battle royal. After working on Kimball, Davis was able to take the lead on Lap-22 as Finch moved into second. Over the last three laps Davis, Finch and Kimball ran bumper-to-bumper and side-by-side leaving the winner in doubt until the checkers. Ron Davis III grabbed the narrow win with Gregg Kimball, Tony Finch II, Mike Prentice and Billy Clark Jr. rounding out the top-five.
