BREWERTON, NY – April 28, 2015 (By Dave Medler) – The night Central New York race fans have been waiting for since the end of the 2014 racing season takes place this Friday, May 1 when Ferris Mowers presents opening night at the Brewerton Speedway.
On the race card will be the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds/SUNY Canton Sportsman/Pro Race Cars Mod Lites and Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders.
Matt Sheppard will return to defend his Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified Championship. That will be no easy task when you look at the level of competition that has earned ‘The D-Shaped Dirt Demon’ the reputation as one of the toughest tracks in the Northeast to win a feature, let alone a title. Drivers like Billy Decker, Jimmy Phelps, Larry Wight, Ryan Phelps, Chris Hile, Pat Ward, Rob Bellinger, Matt Billings, Chad Phelps, Vic Coffey and others make Friday night look like a series race.
For a long time fans and competitors have been asking for the SUNY Canton Sportsman to be part of the weekly racing. After the success of the Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Shootout Series, the decision was made during the off-season to bring the division to the regular lineup. With no Sportsman driver having a real advantage at the speedway, it should make for a great season to decide the first ever Brewerton Speedway Champion.
Week in, week out the Pro Race Car Mod Lites put on a great show. This season should be even better now that everyone is 100% under TUSA rules.
In the Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders, the question will be, can anyone dethrone Chuck Powelczyk? Coming off his 2014 Championship Powelczyk shoots for his 80th win in the division at the Speedway. Coming into this Friday he is at 71 victories.
