Steve Poirier Out Guns Chuck Hebing For Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Gold At The Brewerton Speedway On Schneider Packaging Equipment Co. Night

Chuck Hebing and Steve Poirier had a classic battle Wednesday night at the Utica-Rome Speedway that saw Hebing take the A-Main win with a late pass with 3 laps to go. Coming into Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway fans would see more of the same from the top-two in victories on the 2011 Lucas Oil Emprie Super Sprint Tour.

Steve Poirier out of Quebec took the lead on lap 7 of the 25 lap A-Main and looked to be cruising to an easy win, till late yellows allowed Chuck Hebing who started 12th a second straight shot at a late race pass for the win. On this night Poirier withstood Hebing’s challenges for less than a second on the clock victory on Schneider Packaging Equipment Co. Night. Jason Barney from Brewerton and employee of the night’s sponsor finished third, followed by Charlie Donk and Lance Yonge to round out the top-five.

“Shawn (Donath) was caught in traffic, my car was super good in the begining, and I could move through traffic,” said Poirier about his lap 7 pass for the lead.” Traffic was really heavy tonight; the cars in the back were really slower. Track was really fast on the inside, everybody was battling for that small portion of track. I was lucky to find a way to the front.”

“On lap 17 I saw he was sixth (Chuck Hebing) I thought I was going to be okay, because the track was hard to pass on. When I saw him on the last restart he was second, I said to myself I was in really big trouble. The track was really hard to pass, and he moved from the back to the front, so he is surely faster than me. By the end, my car was going away, I was not that comfortable. I just stayed on the bottom and kept my line. I was driving hard on the straightaway, the car had a lot of traction, and in the corners it was not that good. I saw him and just concentrated to stay on my line and stayed on the bottom,” finished up Poirier about his win over Hebing.

In the 20 lap Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified feature, Rob Keller and Kevan Cook had a great battle for the lead, before Cook took over the top spot on lap twelve. Just when it looked like Cook would runaway and hide, he had to hold off a strong challenge over the final laps from Rich Keller to pick up his ninth win of the 2011 season.  Rob Keller, Brandon Carvey and Glen Erwin finished third through fifth.

Doug Williams who will be concentrating just on the Brewerton Speedway for the rest of the season, took the lead on lap 3 and never looked back for his fourth win of the year in the Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites. Sterling Miller, Joe Isabell, Andrew Schartner and Rick Demo chased Williams across the line.

In the 15 lap Metalico Four Cylinder Super Stocks, Jim Money made it two wins in a row. The win was anything but easy as he had to hold off nine time feature winner Stephen Denton for the narrow win. Keith Shay, Corie Locke and Richard Leahey finished third through fifth.
