Billy Decker Makes Late Charge To Win His Forty-Sixth Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified Feature At The Brewerton Speedway

Thirty-Four Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds signed in the Brewerton Speedway pits Friday night ready to do battle on the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon’. After the heats and two consi’s set the 27 car starting field, Billy Decker drove by race long leader Tom Sears Jr. on lap 28 and never looked back winning by almost three-seconds at the checkers.

Other winners on Junior Fan Club Night were Tim Sears Jr., NAPA Late Models, Chris Fleming, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Jeff Isabell, Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites and Stephen Denton took the checkers in the Metalico Four-Cylinder Super Stocks.

Tom Sears Jr. took advantage of the tacky race surface and bolted out to the early lead in the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified Feature, Randy Chrysler tried to keep pace with Sears.

With 5 laps complete Sears ran alone in the lead as Ryan Bartlett and Dale Planck ran side by side in a fight for second with Chrysler and Mike Bowman showing in the top-five.

On lap 10 Sears was out front on cruise control as Planck looked for a way to cut into Sears lead. Just behind the top-two, Chad Phelps, Bartlett and Matt Sheppard were in a tight pack for third through fifth.

Opening night feature winner Stewart Friesen made racing contact with another car on lap 14 sending his car around and into an implement tire in turn four. Friesen made a quick shock replacement in the pits, but returned a lap down to the field.

At the halfway-point Sears built-up a half a straightaway lead over Planck with Phelps running third, who now had company as Billy Decker and Pat Ward moved into the top-five after starting deep in the pack.

On lap 21 Planck slipped up the track exiting turn-two allowing Decker to slip by and take off after Sears for the race lead and possible win.

With 10 laps to go Sears still showed the way but he now had Decker right in his tire tracks as Decker quickly erased Sears lead. Planck, Ward and Willy Decker showed in the top-five on the scoring tower.

With just over a handful of laps to go Decker found the bite he needed on the cushion to bolt by Sears exiting turn-four to be scored the new leader on the 28th  go round at the line.

Once out front Decker pulled away to be the first under the checkers for his forty-sixth Brewerton Speedway victory. Sears, Planck, Ward and Larry Wight rounded out the top-five.

After exiting his Gypsum Wholesalers, Stadium International Trucks, Integra Shocks, No.91 Bicknell Decker talked about his win. “It’s been to dog gone long,” said a happy and relieved winner since his last Brewerton win. “It was tough sledding again. Two weeks in a row I think we were the best car at the end, tonight it proved beneficial for us.”

Sportsman star Tim Sears Jr. showed he can drive anything Friday night. With just a handful of starts in 2010 in a NAPA Late Model he made his limited experience pay off with a dominate win in the 20 lap feature. Sears grabbed the lead on the opening lap and was never seriously challenged for his first ever win. Brighton Speedway regular Ron Wadsworth, Sean Beardsley, Mike Trapp and Gordy Button chased Sears across the line.

Josh VanTassell and new track regular Chris Fleming had a tight battle swapping the lead back and forth in the second half of the 20 lap Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified feature, with Fleming picking up the narrow win. JJ Courcy, Jason Amidon and Rich Keller finished third through fifth.

In the 20 lap Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites it was the battle of the Isabell’s. Jeff Isabell led the entire distance but he had to hold off Jeff Isabell Jr. and Joe Isabell to make it a family sweep at the checkers. Mike Mullen and Doug Williams came home fourth and fifth.

After a dominating performance on opening night Stephen Denton did it again running away from the field in the 15 lap Metalico Four-Cylinder Super Stocks. Chuck Powelczyk, Colby Herzog, Jim Money and Sam Curcie rounded out the top-five.

Next Friday night April, 29th K-Rock 109.9/106.5 presents a full night of racing, featuring the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, NAPA Late Models, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites and Metalico Four-Cylinder Super Stocks.
